At the beginning of 2022, China Association of Environmental Protection Industry officially announced the results of 2021 Environmental Technology Progress Award. Newmat’s "Solvent based coating VOCs emission source alternative technology and large-scale application" project won the first prize of environmental technology progress.

This award was filed by the National Science and Technology Award Office, aiming to encourage technological innovation, establishing an environmental technology innovation system with enterprises as the main body, market as the guidance, and combining production, teaching, research and application. Through nomination, review, approval, publicity and other procedures, the final results of focusing on environmental application technology are evaluated.

This project is the result of the "13th Five Year National Key R&D Program" undertaken by Newmat as the leading unit. Aiming at the problem of large proportion of VOCs emissions from solvent sources and difficult governance, the project innovatively studied the core technologies such as polymer multi-stage shell core structure and hyperbranched design, nano functional particle composite, surface/interface regulation, etc. with the goal of achieving the source substitution of VOCs. In addition, this project also solved the common problems such as slow curing speed, poor impact toughness and insufficient salt spray resistance of waterborne industrial coating materials in the industry. A systematic solution has been formed to replace the source of solvent based coatings, and a series of low VOCs waterborne coatings have been developed, which have been successfully applied to the coating of rail transit vehicles, petroleum special pipes, PVC soft substrates, etc., with VOCs emission reduction of more than 90%, thereby, providing an environmentally friendly and clean alternative system solution for water-based coating materials for solvent source coating industry.

Since its establishment, Newmat has been committed to the development and application of new green coating materials and functional nano materials. The project of "Alternative Technology and Scale Application of Solvent based Coating VOCs Emission Source" won the first prize of Environmental Technology Progress, which is the recognition and affirmation of Newmat's scientific research capability. The company will continue to deeply study high-end green surface treatment technologies, strive to promote the large-scale application of energy conservation and emission reduction technologies in emerging industries, and make greater contributions to the comprehensive green transformation and development of China's ecological environment protection and economic and social development.
